For those of us living in hot areas with little rain in keeping a lawn healthy and green can be a challenge. I live in Antigua tropical and although at times of the year we have a lot of rain, especially during hurricane season, sometimes we have drought conditions. What can you do if you live in areas similar to this to ensure that your lawn stays green all year round?

There are a variety of seeds grass available that are resistant to drought and facing such conditions. I collected some data on different types available, especially in relation to U.S., but of interest to everyone anywhere in the world we live

Bermuda Grass

Bermuda grass seed is one of the seeds of resistance to drought than you can buy. It thrive in regions that are very dry and hot throughout the year but also grows well in hot areas with heavy rains. This is a first class all round grass seed to use to grass seed. The grass thrives in full sun, but keep well-drained land. It can survive for periods of severe drought as it has very deep roots. It is best to reduce to about one to one and a half inches deep wear and resistance to drought.

Zoysia Grass

Zoysia grass has a medium green delicious while the conditions drought will be yellow. This is a first type of drought-resistant grass as the roots find water deep to allow greater depths. For more cold weather becomes dormant and turns brown. Zoysia grass seed produces a slower-growing grass that is fairly free of problems to look after.

Tall fescue Grass

While tall fescue flourishes best in wet conditions is extremely drought resistant and grows well in a lot of different soil types including clay soil is poorly drained. Tall fescue grass seed is ideal for regions experience hot, humid and summers are long and very cold winters, but if you keep it cut about 3 inches in the hottest season is able to tolerate drought conditions satisfactory. It is a good plan to over seed tall fescue in the fall to ensure uniform coverage of your lawn.

In Conclusion

Wherever you live, if you have periods that are very dry, and then consider the use of these drought-resistant seeds of grass. Not only do they give you a flower, grass in good condition throughout the year, but much less work too! Less watering, less cutting is always a good thing when it comes to lawn. It will also be saving water and reducing the operating cost of your lawn mower (unless you use a push mower) and will help the environment at the same time.
